Letter to the Editor: More detailed fire information needed

I have been trying to follow and keep abreast of local wildfires for the past ten years or so.

My greatest observation overall has been the complete lack of substantive information provided by both Cal fire and the USFS as regards specific information regarding active wildfires. The general public has a sincere need and right to know what is taking place in their community, particularly when confronted with potential evacuation or other life threatening events.

Over the past three weeks the amount of detailed information provided by Cal Fire and USFS regarding the Dixie fire has been dismal at best. The daily reports appear to be nothing more than  a cut and paste of the previous days reports. I have to say, that the most detailed information I have read  thus far has been from the Plumas County news. Thank you for that. Recently, my first search is through the Plumas County News site for updated information  rather than Cal Fire and USFS.

A little but of current information goes a long way toward easing the apprehensions of people temporarily displaced from their homes within fire threatened areas. I’m well aware the line personnel are preoccupied with the immediate demands of dealing with the fires, but I’m reasonably certain there are sufficient support staff available to provide timely and accurate information to concerned residents.

Just a simple observation and opinion held by me as well as many other local community members.
