Letter to the Editor: Vote Common Sense

In a Letter to the Editor today, someone named Mark wrote a letter intended to motivate you how to vote on the upcoming recall election by inciting fear, using hyperbole and misinformation. Don’t be swayed by that, rather, vote what you think is right, no matter what your party. Vote for a candidate from any party if you wish. This isn’t about which party you belong to, but rather a referendum on the job Governor Newsom has done (or hasn’t) for California. He has not demonstrated the outstanding leadership this state deserves.

State Departments have failed (Unemployment for certain), he has demonstrated hypocrisy with regard to his mis-mangement of the Covid crisis, he has not stepped up to set policy with regard to fire suppression or forest management, he has not even begun to solve the homeless crisis, he has supported PG&E rather than the people of our state…should I go on? There may be a Democrat who could do a better job. Or a Libertarian, or Republican.

I find it interesting that the earlier letter I mentioned says if you do vote to recall Newsom it will be a disaster for the State and the Nation. That is ridiculous. There are excellent replacement candidates from all parties and affiliations. Believe me, Libertarians and Republicans are just as afraid of what Democrats are doing to California and America as Democrats are of them.

Republicans point to the terrible crisis of leadership issues in Democrat run states, at the souther border, and our cities too. Think Chicago, San Francisco, New York, Baltimore, Los Angeles – record numbers of homeless, Covid, unemployment, education failure, financial mis-management and crime. I could go on. How did we get here? Shouldn’t we pick the right person for the job?

Vote for what you think Californians deserve, and not what the fear mongers are telling you in order to cause you to fear a change in leadership. It’s time we vote our conscience, not just our party.
