Letter to the Editor: Watch Thursday’s debate
This is when I would normally ask you all to vote early. Don’t do that.
There is a debate Thursday night that will be aired on KCRA (at 7:30 p.m., my notes say). If you don’t already know the candidates well, you should tune in. Watch how democracy is supposed to work as the candidates for Congressional District 3 explain their goals in representing you.
If you are wondering why you should care about Congressional District 3, those of us in Plumas and Sierra Counties are in this newly formed district and there is no incumbent. (Lassen County, you are still in District 1.)
When I knock on doors, so many of you tell me that you vote for the person, not the party, so I know you want to see the debate and hear what these two men have to say.
Then vote. Yes, I recommend you read the pamphlets you have been sent, mark your ballot and mail it early. You must mail it by November 8 and it will be counted if it arrives within 7 days. If you worry about the mail, sign up at BallotTrax and they will email you when your ballot is picked up by USPS and when it is counted!
If you really like doing things the hard way, you can drive to Quincy and drop your ballot off in the box in front of the courthouse. Really, like doing things the hard way? Wait until November 8 and go through the guard station in the courthouse to the polling place.
My ballot has been counted already. But I met Dr. Kermit Jones on 2 of the 3 occasions that he came to Plumas County and I was very impressed by his intelligence, plans, and understanding of our local needs (especially wildfire and insurance).
