At the halfway point, Terry is atop the leader board
We are a third of the way through the 2019/20 tournament season of our grassroots club that is sanctioned by the American Cribbage Congress.
Susan Terry is leading the club with 104 total game points to date, but Brad Archer is right on her tail with 98 points. Darlene Pekovich is currently in third place with 73 points and Ron Morgan is right behind her with 68 points. We still have a lot of cribbage to play with 23 weekly tournaments remaining so the leader board will certainly change. As we have mentioned, the club champion will be invited to play in ACC’s official Tournament of Champions that is played once a year at the Grand National Tournament held this year in Sacramento in September 2020.
At our Saturday, Nov. 30, gathering we had a 12 players that included one guest from Quincy, Zach Revene, and one visitor from Reno, Les Rasmussen. The difference in our lingo regarding a visitor and a guess is that a visitor is a member of another grassroots club and a guest is not.
Brad Archer from Reno took first with 16 game points derived from seven wins on the day. Pekovich was a close second posting 15 games points and seven wins as well. Third place went to Morgan with a 14/7 score and I, Doug Rodrigues, squeaked into fourth place with an 11/5 scorecard.
There were only two 24-hands held by Clyde Terry and Steve Frank, who was dealt the last and won the 24-Hand Pot. It is interesting to note that there were no 24-hands until around game seven and then Clyde and Steve got the only two about a minute apart! Just because you are holding a 24-point hand it doesn’t count for the side pot unless you get to count it. Morgan had a 24 crib but couldn’t count it as he pegged out with the count in his hand! There were no 4-of-a-kind hands so the 4-of-a-Kind Pot will roll over to next week.
The Graeagle Peggers Grassroots Cribbage Club meets at Gumba’s Pizza in Blairsden every Saturday for a 9-game tournament. Check-in is at 10:45 and play begins at 11 a.m.
The American Cribbage Congress sanctions the tournaments that qualify when we field enough contestants each week.
