Cheerleaders receive special coaching
The Quincy Cheer team had a helping hand from athletic professional Harlee Keller on Sept. 16. Keller came from her home in Texas where she works in the athletic performance field to lend her expertise to the Quincy squad for high lifts and other gymnastic feats to spice up QHS cheers.
The Trojan spirit team learned new techniques and reached new heights under the tutelage of Keller’s experience. Cheer coach Shelby Wood, assisted by Angela Sandlin, were on hand to maximize the benefits of the special visit.
“I graduated from QHS and cheered all four years there — two of which were while current coach Shelby was also a cheerleader there,” said Keller. “We have been in and out of touch over the years. Shortly before I moved out of the area, we set up a date to do a stunt clinic.”
As of fall 2019, Keller has been coaching All Star Cheerleading for four years. She has been coaching tumbling for five years and coached a high school sideline team at Hug High School last winter.
“I have accreditation from the National Federation of State High School Association as well as the United States All Star Federation to coach cheerleading athletes across multiple ages and skill levels,” said Keller. “I am super passionate about giving back to the community I came from and in the past, worked closely with Greenville High School, photographing several sports there for the last six years.”
