Eagles topple Redwoods
Feather River College baseball has been swingin’ and throwin’ for months. “This is our 23rd game,” said FRC Athletic Director Merle Trueblood as he watched the Eagles win March 5 in their first game with the Redwood Corsairs, 17-3.
Infielder Jerry Thomas was the most successful Eagle that game crossing home plate four times.
Two runs each were scored by Eagles shortstop Peter Mendazona, first baseman Braden Del Carlo, third baseman Brad Madison and centerfielder Michael Boomgaarden. Right fielder Eric Spencer, infielder Ryan Bolf, designated hitter Haydn Brown, catcher Jake Christianson and third baseman Garrett Damico scored single runs.
Right fielder Cooper Kitrel hit three RBIs; Bolf, Del Carlo and Brown hit two each. Thomas, Mendazona, Boomgaarden and Damico all hit an RBI.
Haydn Brown hit a home run, Madison hit a triple, and Thomas hit a double. Thomas and Del Carlo successfully stole a base.
Myles Davis pitched seven innings for the Eagles striking out three Corsair batters of 28 faced. Cody Lorenzini struck out four batters in two innings facing seven batters.
The Eagles will play in Quincy again tomorrow, March 12, at 2 p.m., facing the Butte Roadrunners before traveling to Oroville for a doubleheader the next day against the same team.
Friday, March 20, at noon and 3 p.m., the Eagles host the Lassen Eagles. Thursday and Friday, March 26 and 27, College of the Siskiyous will travel to Quincy to play on the Eagle diamond starting at 3 p.m. on Thursday and 1 p.m. on Friday.
Shasta will challenge Friday and Saturday, April 3 and 4, in Quincy as the season nears an end. The final home games for the Eagles before playoffs are Saturday, April 18, at 1 p.m., facing the Roadrunners and Wednesday, April 22, at 3 p.m., against the Lassen team.
