Quincy High Inaugural
Plumas Pines Golf Course in Blairsden will be the site for the first Quincy High School Booster Club Golf Fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 17. That’s right! A high school sports event, well, sort of. QHS staff, coaches, alumni, students, and friends of Quincy Athletics will gather on the golf course for a day of “fun and camaraderie.” The price for golf is $100 per person and includes tournament entry, driving range balls, contest holes, and lunch at the turn. There are numerous tournament sponsorships available to help offset the costs of the golf tournament. To participate, donate or ask questions, contact QHS Athletic Director Jason Hawkins (805) 280-2658 or email [email protected].

Play on Sept. 18 was a 2-man Member-Member tournament. This was a Par Points tournament where players receive points for pars, birdies and the like, so the results are positive numbers rather than negative. There were two flights and in the first flight the team of Winston Giles and Dan Anderson took first place having a score of 49. Second place went to the team of Ron Clark and Bert Bellows with the score of 46. Mike Gibson and James Oster, who shot a 39, took third place. In the second flight the team of Bill Hopp and Bryan Hansen took first place with a score of 54. John Grasso and Ron Eaton, with the score of 52, followed the top pair. Third place in the second flight went to Mark Yuill and Dave Macdonald with the score of 50. There were no skins contested on this particular Friday.

Thursday games for the GMWGC members Sept. 17 included a competition in the September Ace of Aces Qualifier. Each month the low gross and low net winners of this tournament qualify to play in the end -of-season Ace of Aces Playoff on the last Thursday of September. If the low scoring member has won a previous month’s qualifier, the second low scoring member qualifies for that month.
September qualifiers were: Low Gross, Cynthia Baldwin (76); and, Low Net, Alaine Flynn (65). The game of the day was Low Gross/Low Net. Cynthia Baldwin was the Low Gross winner; Second Low Gross was Priscilla Piper (85). First Low Net was Alaine Flynn and Second Low Net was Chris Laxague (68).
Next up will be the eleven Ace of Aces Qualifiers where members vie for the title of Ace of Aces, while the rest of the field will play for low gross and low net within flights.
