Golf Results for the week of 5/10/17

Graeagle Men’s Golf Association

Graeagle Meadows golf course is open and the men’s play days have started. You can now sign up for Wednesday and Friday play using the men’s club website or the sign-up sheet in the clubhouse. The golf course is in great shape with very few problems from our heavy winter.

On Thursday April 6, Graeagle Land & Water hosted a play day and an appreciation reception for the annual members. Unfortunately, it was a cold and rainy day. Several played a few holes but did not finish. One stalwart member, Grant Mayfield, finished all 18 holes. The free reception was a nice new touch for annual members. Many members enjoyed the excellent hors d’oeuvres and cocktails in spite of the challenging weather.

Monday, May 1, officially opened the play days for the club. Monday Madness resulted in first place winner Jim Adams with a net 68, second place was won by Dennis Flynn with a net 69,and Holly Anderson, John Grasso and John Scott tied for third with a net 72.

The Wednesday group on May 3 was played under beautiful weather with temps in the 80s. Jay Hendrick took first place with a net 64 and second place was a tie between Ron Eaton and Norm Nichols with a net 67. Skins were as follows: Jay Hendrick scored big with three skins. One each was won by Norm Nichols, Ron Eaton and Chuck Franck.

What a way to start our season last Tuesday, May 2. The weather was sunny and warm as 22 members of the Lake Almanor Country Club Women’s Golf Club turned out for Opening Day of the 2017 season.

The game, a Modified Chapman, was followed by a luncheon and monthly meeting where President Trudy Leete welcomed our newest member, Kathleen Mitchell. She also thanked our Genesee member, Margie Joseph, for driving so far to play in our league. Margie said, “For golf, it’s worth it.”

LACC Women’s Golf Club is open to women outside our community. We welcome new members. If you are interested in joining us, please call our membership chairperson, Jessie King, 259-2896.

Our luncheon was catered by Joe France and Bonnie Stryker, the new proprietors of the LACC clubhouse Clifford’s Restaurant. The food and service were wonderful, as many of us have discovered during other meals we have eaten there since it opened in early April. We are all looking forward to our June 27 luncheon. Clifford’s is open to the public and they have a very nice restaurant menu as well as a bar menu. Come give them a try.

In the Modified Chapman format, we played on two-person teams. Each player tees off and then hits their partner’s ball for their second shot. The team picks their best ball and they alternate shots into the hole from that point. The winners of our first place team, with a score of 91, are Margie Joseph and Trudy Leete. Two teams tied for second place, with a score of 101, and shared the winnings. Those teams are Mary Craig playing with Karen Griffin and Collette Prentke playing with Maggie Fleming. Congratulations on your opening day victories.

The lucky winners of our weekly 50/50 pot were Judie Crain and Peggy Lentz.

Winners or not, we all had a great time reuniting with our friends.

White Tees: first D. Plessas and A. Voip – 67; Tie for second – K. Roberts and S. Munsen –69; B. Clark and P. Jeglum – 69.

Bailey Creek Women’s Golf Club

Our opening day began with a “Pot Luck” breakfast at the home of Joyce Gronroos. It was wonderful to see our “golfing buddies” after a long hiatus since the end of October 2016.

The weather couldn’t have been better — sunshine and no wind.

The course is in excellent condition, especially with the winter snow we experienced.

The game of the day was “Low Net” with winners, Mary Craig, a new member, placing first with the lowest number of putts, Donna White placed second, with a “Birdie-chip-in” on Hole 12 and Joyce Gronroos placing third.

A fun day was had by all, with some of the girls wearing our new “Bailey Creek” golf shirts.

Graeagle Meadows Women’s Golf Club

The women’s club at Graeagle Meadows is eagerly awaiting the time when we can begin our play for the 2017 season. This has been postponed for the current season due to the wet conditions on the course.

Our group was first established in 1968 and has continued, without break, since that time. We currently have over 70 active members. Our nine hole group generally play on Tuesday afternoons and our 18 hole group on Thursday mornings, but since last year, we have been able to incorporate the two groups into Thursday mornings for those would like to “join the larger group” for morning golf.

We are very active in the community as a whole, with many of our members volunteering at EPCAN on a regular basis, participating in the offerings at the Mohawk Valley Recourse Center, and other local needs.
