Golf Results for the week of 8/16/17

Graeagle Meadows Men’s Golf Association

Friday, Aug. 4, was a good day for Bill Kennedy as he cleared the Badditos field by three strokes with a net 64. Davies and McIlroy shred second with a 67. Andy Knudsen and George Fraser shared third with a 68. Four skins were won one each for Bob McIlroy, Norm Nichols, Bill Kennedy and Davies.

The Bandits played a two-man team event in which one ball was scored on odd holes and two balls were scored on even holes. Jim Adams and Mike Herrington shared first place with the blind draw team of Jim Adams and Don Barnes. Each team shot 103.

The Wednesday Play Day on Aug. 9 was a low-net game with skins. George Fraser placed first with a 63. Ralph Wittick took second with a 65 and John Grasso took third with a 66. Skins were won by Jack Gilbert, George Fraser, Chuck Franck and Ralph Wittick.

The Guys and Gals Couples Championship is scheduled for Aug. 16 and 20.

The Combined Men’s Championships are scheduled for Aug. 25 and 27. There will be a Men’s, Senior and Super Senior Division. Deadline for sign-up is Aug. 18. Contact Dan Friedman with any questions. Entry forms are in the clubhouse and also the club website under “Tourneys.”

Due to the hot weather, the Wednesday Play Day has had a couple of earlier tee times. Effective Aug. 23, the usual first tee time of 11 a.m. will be reinstated. Contact Ron Eaton with any questions.

Mt. Huff Golf

Even though the heat is on, the golf at Mt. Huff is still pleasant in the morning for our Wednesday Morning Scramble.

On Wednesday, Aug. 2, the gang turned out for a brisk round of competitive play.

Our first place win at eight under par went to Jeff Stevens, Loren LIndner and Dick Grace.

The second place team, scoring at four under par, was the team of Darel Joseph, Duane Austin and Jim Battigan.

Once again, as last week, Jim Battigan hit if closest to the pin and scored the chip=in along with Bill McRoberts Nice play, fellows.

The weather and the golf competition just keeps getting better and better. The Wednesday Morning Scramble got off to a great start on Aug. 9.

Our first place team roared in at thirteen-under-par, giving the win to Ralph Cote, Tom Gossett, Ryan Stevens and Jeff Stevens.

The second place team also made an excellent showing at eight-under-par for Margie Joseph, Ron Carter, Don McConnell and Leo Sorosinski.

Jeff Stevens hit it closest to the pin.The chip-in was carried over with no winner.

Sign-up for the scramble starts at 8:30 a.m. with tee-off at 9:00 a.m. All are welcome to join each Wednesday.

Today was the second round of the Senior/Super Senior Championship.

Round 2 net scores, white tees: first Steve Munsen – 69; second Mike Wilson – 70; third Brad Clark – 71; fourth Eric Anderson – 72.

Gold tees: first Charlie Ross – 67; second Jerry Burt – 68; third Barry Mitchell – 70; fourth Jac Castleton – 71; fifth John Kidwell – 72.

Senior Championship Gross: first Kim Roberts 77-79=156; second Gary Maniery 80-78=158; third Steve Munsen 83-77=160; fourth Eric Anderson 84-84=168.

Graeagle Meadows Women’s Golf Club

On Aug. 3 and 10 GMWGC members played their annual two round Partner Eclectic, in which the better net ball of the twosome counts on each hole the first day, and may be improved upon on each hole during the second round.

Flight A winners included: First place, Alaine Flynn and Bev Reynolds, with an eclectic net score of 57; second place, Holly Anderson and Susie Wiese (58); and, 3 third place Priscilla Piper and Sharla Scott (59).

Flight B: First place, Lois Childress and Maureen Ford (52); second place, Annie Fischer and Donna Swanson (54); and, third place, Carol Desmond and Carol Mitchell (56).

And, there were chip-ins galore: on Aug. 3, Karen Linde and Carol Mitchell had one each; on Aug. 10, Holly Anderson, Lois Childress, Ginger Holladay-Houston, Janet Houston and Donna Swanson had one each.

Whitehawk Ladies Golf

While several Whitehawk Ladies were playing at Plumas Pines, the Tuesday games continued.

The game was Two Best Balls (net) of the foursome Front Nine and Two Best Balls (net) Back Nine. The winning team of Competello, Piper, Osborn and Verutti won the Front Nine low net while the team of Russel, McNamara, Stein and Crowe won the Back Nine low net. A fun game. Next up the Whitehawk Invitational.

Plumas Pines Women’s Golf Club

The 34th Annual Golf Invitational Tournament held by Plumas Pines Women’s Golf Club on Aug. 7 and 8 had the theme “Black, White & Bling.” The format was 2-Day Two Net Best Balls, plus Low Gross in each flight. Once again participants were treated to an excellent breakfast buffet and lunch on both days. The pro shop staff and Brandon’s Bowling’s family provided great entertainment prior to the first day of golf, lip syncing and dancing to the music of James Brown, Elton John, Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber and more. The display of raffle prize baskets, all done in black and silver, was very striking. The Plumas Pines golf professionals, pro shop staff, course superintendent and crew, Longboards Bar & Grill staff and many volunteers from the Plumas Pines Women’s and Men’s Clubs coordinated their efforts for a fun and smooth running tournament. Twenty-six foursomes competed this year, with at least 33 other golf courses being represented. The results are as follows:

Ruby Flight: Low gross winners with a score of 303 were Jan Anderson, Jody Epperson, Marcia Zeigler and Joann West. Low net: first Place went to Debbie Fuetsch, Cary Groth, Patty Evans and Jocelyn Zarubi with 229; second place was won by Judy Rossi, Linda Scarff, Gail Johnson and Barbara Jorone with 237. Third place went to Mary Stonebraker, Elaine Easterling, Kathy Dunn and Jean Driver with 240.

Emerald Flight: Low gross winners with a score of 349 were Scooter Kidwell, Patty Rohman, Karen Linde, Angela Grant. Low net: First place was won by Cathy Cianciolo, Sabine Bennett, Mary Blaylock and Susie Wiese with 239. Second place went to  Nancy Bartlett, Katherine McKeague, Vernie Mast and Jeannie Hansen with 243. Third Place winners were Janet Grijalva, Lori Dierssen, Darlene Gibaut, Jan Enloe with 245.

Sapphire Flight: Low gross winners with a score of 362 were Jackie Luckey, Cheryl Brennan, Cathy Churchill, Connie Raheb. Low net: First place went to Carol Desmond, Cindy Grazier, Nancy Miller and Linda Steiner with 234.  Second place was won by Carol Mitchell, Sandy Kautz, Dona Legarza, Janet Chism with 245.  Third Place winners were Janet Holladay, Ginger Houston, Carolyn Lyon and Faye McCoy with 253.
