“Badditoes” played golf May 6 with a format of two-man teams, the better ball of the team counted on the par 3s and 4s, and both balls counted on the par 5s, plus “skins”. In this format par is 92. The winning team was made up of Steve Harding and Norm Miller with a score of 84. Second was the team of Ron Eaton and Mario Garibotti with a score of 85. Third was a tie between the teams of Dan Coats and Norm Nichols, and Chuck Hein and John Mitchell, both teams with scores of 86. There were 5 skins awarded: two to Ron Eaton, and one each to Norm Miller, John Jackson and Norm Nichols.
The next scheduled event, weather permitting, will be the first Sierra Nevada Travel Cup match with Sierra Sage Golf Club (Reno) to be played at Graeagle Meadows Golf Club on Tuesday, May 10. On Wednesday, May 11, the regular men’s play day is scheduled followed by Badditoes on lucky Friday, May 13.
Sunday, May 15, will be the first couple’s tournament of the 2022 golf season. It is known as the Mixed Couples Foursome CHA-CHA-CHA. The entry deadline is Wednesday, May 11.
The Annual Spring General Membership meeting and 4-man scramble golf tournament took place on May 4. President Jeff Monaghan reviewed the activities of the past year and outlined plans for the coming golf season. Secretary, Treasurer and Membership Chair Chuck Franck reported that GMGA has added 12 new members during the last month, which brings the total membership to 101. Franck reported the club is operating within the proposed budget and is in good financial shape. Members held a moment of silence in honor of Tom Lusby, a long time Assistant Golf Professional at Graeagle Meadows Golf Course, who recently passed. Members were glad to have Dan West, owner of Graeagle Land and Water Company and the Graeagle Meadows Golf Course, outline plans for improvements to the golf course, which will occur during the coming year.
The golf tournament of the day was a 4-man scramble, which required each member of a team to count at least 3 drives each. There was a tie for first place with a net score of 52 between the team of Gene Carr, Jeff Monaghan, David MacDonald and Robert McIlroy; and the team of Jim Adams, Leo Reihsen, Norm Nichols and Tom Fregulia. Third place was a three-way tie with a score of 53 among the teams of Jim Reynolds, Norm Miller, Jack Gilbert and Dennis Flynn; John Mitchell, Grant Mayfield, Bryan Hansen and John Scott; and, Mark Yuill, Nate Coates, Andy Knudsen and John Grasso.
