Greenville volleyball lands winning shots

The Indians are running a winning streak as conference play begins in the Pioneer Mountain League. The girls are 6-4 overall and won their first league game 3-1 against the Herlong Vikings on Sept. 24. The set scores were 25-13 GHS, 25-20 GHS, 25-16 Westwood and 25-10 for GHS.

Junior Alexis Goodson landed 11 of her 18 kill attempts to the further the Greenville wins. Senior Ashlyn Bustamante also put fear into the Viking eyes with 26 attempts and seven successful non-returnable shots. Sophomore Chloe Copeland fired 21 times with five kill shots. Freshman Morgan Tyler landed three of her four kill shot attempts and sophomore Ashlyn Heard hit one of her four shots.

Sophomore Stella Balbiani didn’t land any kill shots but she fired eight and sometimes that’s good enough to perpetuate the idea in the mind of the opponent.

Goodson landed six ace serves in 19 tries, Tyler hit the mark four times, Copeland aced two. All members of the GHS Indian team were successful delivering an ace serve to Westwood.

Goodson had five blocks for Greenville. Heard and Tyler each added one.

Bustamante had the most contact with 20 digs, Goodson had 15, Tyler 14, Heard 10, Copeland five and Balbiani two. Senior Bustamante provided 18 assists, Goodson four and Copeland one.

Ready on the spot receiving Lumberjack serves was sophomore Copeland picking up the first contact on 19 serves. Tyler and Goodson were first on six serves each and Heard received five with Balbiani receiving two.

The Indians will take on the Westwood Lumberjacks at 5:30 p.m. in Greenville tomorrow, Oct. 3.
