High School golfers swing in perfect weather

High School golfers headed to Oroville for the first rounds of the season and to compete in the Par Three tournament March 4.

Portola head golf coach William Davis traveled with the team on to the green for an ideal day outdoors in “exceptional weather.” Two Portola golfers finished in second place: Owen Bowling and Brandon Kotric.

“We had a great tournament yesterday with exceptional weather,” said Tom Lewis, Oroville golf coach. “Great pace of play and a lot of golfers gaining more confidence and experience.”

Twenty teams took the challenge on the green that day.I want to say thank you to Lisa Ross and Garret Weagant, and the staff at Table Mountain for their time and energy to help pull off yesterday’s event,” said Lewis. “I also want to thank each coach, without people like you, these events are not possible.”

The team from Lassen finished first as a team with combined team score of 195. Nevada Union and West Valley tied for second with a team score of 200. West Valley  finished first with low score of 58. Lassen  and Portola  tied for second with scores of 59. Loyalton and Colusa tied with scores of 60. “Again, thank you all for a great day on the course,” said Lewis.

The golf schedule is not yet filled out, the early spring weather may have courses doubting that winter is truly over. High School golfers traveled to Chico to play at Boswell Park on March 11 and Sierra Sage on March 13 to play in Reno. Beyond that, the schedule has not yet taken shape.
