Indians beat a path through Hayfork defense

The Greenville High football team clobbered the Timberjacks in Hayfork during the Indians’ second game of the season, 60-14. With a seriously close loss the previous week to the Big Valley Cardinals, 27-26, the Indians were on the warpath.

Senior Tristin Clark threw 16 passes for 11 completions and a total 218 yards. Junior Andrew Putnam pitched in with a completion and 16 yards.

Junior Harlan Savala shined as he scored three of the Greenville touchdowns. The balance of GHS’ TDs were scored by Putnam, junior Isaiah Hilpert, Rodney Meyer, Colton Lawson and quarterback Clark. Hilpert led rushing with 192 yards followed by Savala with 101 and Clark with 82.

Conversions were completed by Hilpert and Savala with two each for Putnam and Lawson.

Senior Colton Lawson had a stellar game receiving five passes for a total of 121 yards. Hilpert caught three passes for an additional 83 yards. Overall, Hilpert brought the Indians 275 yards! Bested only by Clark with 300! Wow, what a game.

Sophomores Trevor Barr and Garrett Miille brought down 10 tackles each while Lawson, Hilpert and sophomore Lloyd Roath each made nine.

The Greenville defense was rough on the Hayfork Timberjack offense. Barr sacked the quarterback and Savala, sophomore Kyle Hitson and junior Anthony Joseph hurried the QB a total of four times. Junior Rodney Meyer, Miille and Lawson each intercepted the ball, Lawson twice. Hilpert recovered two fumbles and Clark and Joseph caused two fumbles. Go Greenville!

The GHS homecoming game is coming up Friday, Sept. 14, as they take on the Herlong Vikings starting at 7 p.m.
