Lady Eagles climb conference ladder

The Feather River College softball team finished off its regular games last week in first place in the Golden Valley Conference with a record of 16-2 before the final doubleheader with Shasta April 22.

They beat the Siskiyous Eagles in both games of a doubleheader April 17 by scores of 10-1 and 9-1. That was pretty great because the last time the FRC women played Siskiyous, on April 10, they lost both games, 8-0 and 7-4. The FRC Eagles just latched on to the Siskiyous Eagles and shook them ‘til they gave up.

In the 9-1 victory, Madison Harris scored three runs, one was a grand slam for a game total of five RBIs! What a day for Harris! Akela Holder scored two runs and Kyllie Sappington, Laticia Molina, Cynthia Barela and Rebeka Elwell all scored a run for FRC. Barela also hit an RBI. Harris and Bianca Betrano hit doubles.

Ananda Delegarito pitched all five innings facing 23 batters and striking out eight.

The FRC Eagles played a consistent game scoring three runs in the second inning, one in the third, four runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth. The Siskiyous Eagles were only allowed one run in the fifth inning.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the FRC women won 10-1, again playing very consistently. The FRC Eagles scored four runs in the first inning, two in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth. Again the Siskiyous Eagles were only allowed a single run late in the game’s fourth inning.

Kyllie Sappington scored three runs. Akela Holder and Laticia Molina scored two FRC runs each. Ananda Delegarito, Madison Harris and Bianca Betrano all scored one of FRC’s 10 game-winning runs.

Betrano hit three RBIs and Holder hit two. Molina, Harris, Barela, Elwell and Alexis Robinson-Howarth all hit RBIs. Holder hit a triple and Sappington and Robinson-Howarth hit doubles.

Caitlin Lotspeich pitched the entire game and struck out four batters of 25 faced.

Two days later the FRC Eagles took on the Corsairs from College of the Redwoods in Eureka. “We need to win all of our games,” said freshman Eagle Shalayna Gamboa after the win against Siskiyous.

True statement because the Shasta Knights were still within range to tie the top position for the Golden Valley title with four games remaining.

The FRC Eagles did beat the Corsairs 7-0 and 5-0. Look for details next week, as well as, for the final regular game of the season with Shasta April 22.
