Twelve-year-old Oliver Litchfield took his skills to the American Judo and Jujitsu Federation/American Traditional Jujutsu Association national championship competition in Atlanta, Georgia, on Aug. 3, and brought home third place in the Junior Advanced category for his age at 100 pounds.

Indian Valley’s Litchfield had the company of his sensei, Harry Burleson and his father Dan Litchfield.

“Oliver’s pool had 10 competitors in a double elimination bracket,” said Burleson. “Although Oliver placed third, he beat the gold medal winner in a head-to-head competition.” That sounds like exciting prospects for future competitions for the young Litchfield.

“We are coming into a heavy tournament season and have many other National and Olympic hopefuls in the wings working hard to get there, too,” said Burleson.

The schedule of upcoming judo tournaments is listed in the Sports Scores and Schedules in your favorite local Sports Section … this one.
