PHS gets a chance at state

The Portola girls’ basketball moved on to the CIF state playoffs as one of the four top teams in Northern California Division 5. They traveled to Willows to take on the Honkers yesterday, Feb. 26, in the first round of state championship competition.

The Portola Tigers and the Honkers look evenly matched, looking at the numbers, as both teams went into the playoff able to boast a 21-6 overall score.

“The girls are excited to have one more game,” said Portola girls’ basketball coach Matt Compton. “Willows has a much tougher schedule, tougher teams.”

The Honkers were 8-0 in their league, winning the top spot, and the Tigers had a league record of 8-2 with Biggs being the only dent in their record. Three wins need to take place before there is a possibility of running into the Wolverines again.

For now, the Portola girls have the excitement of competing at state ahead of them, and anything is possible.
