Plumas teams play in county after Covid-19 cancellations
Plumas Unified School District cancelled all out of county travel for sports as of March 12 at 3:30 p.m.
“All PUSD softball teams were scheduled for tournaments this weekend and all had to withdraw,” said Quincy head softball coach Mike Yalung.
With all out of county games canceled effectively from March 13 through to the unforeseeable future, Plumas County softball teams pulled together for an impromptu day of challenges on the Quincy ball field.
“With the help of the other QHS softball coaches and our team mom Marcy DeMartile, I was able to put together an all county softball scrimmage at QHS and all teams attended along with the QHS JV team Friday March 13,” said coach Yalung. “It was a great day of softball considering the circumstances.”
In addition, the QHS softball team recognized Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month and shared information with the other county teams. Quincy senior, Jordan DeMartile, encouraged all players to play for those who can’t play and all QHS Varsity players wore orange socks and bows to support MS Awareness Month.
“We would like to thank the Plumas County varsity softball coaches, student athletes; parents and community volunteer umpires that made this day a success,” said coach Yalung.
It is unknown when the ban for athletic travel in and out of Plumas County will be lifted. Hopefully a two-week ban will suffice to return the spring season sports to their schedules with perhaps an extension to grandfather in the games that were scheduled for these first weeks of league play. PUSD states games are canceled at least until the end of March.
