The Tigers played Chester yesterday and will play the Loyalton Grizzlies on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 4:30 p.m. in Portola.
Their first league game will be a home game against Maxwell on Friday, Jan. 19, at 5:30 p.m.
Portola boys’ basketball
The boys’ team has the heaviest schedule of the four Plumas High Schools planned for this season, with 30 games in the line up.
Head coach Tim Brubaker commented earlier in the season that PHS has a young team and it looks like coach is trying to get the boys as much play time before the season begins as possible. Games parallel the girls’ schedule for the most part and league play begins for the boys Friday, Jan. 19, against Maxwell with the boys’ game starting at 6:30 p.m.
Highlights for the Tiger boys during pre-conference play have been the wins against Ipakanni, North Tahoe, Biggs and PHS rival, Quincy.
How about some attention for the junior varsity girls who have only lost one game all season compared to the varsity girls who have lost 5 or more games. It’s funny how the attention seems to only go towards the varsity sports. Lame!!
Feather Publishing covers varsity teams in its sports pages. There is neither the space nor the staff to cover junior varsity. Those athletes will get their turn when they advance to varsity. That being said, when a team does something exceptional, if a parent or coach wants to submit a photo or a press release, we can publish that in the front section of that community’s newspaper. Thank you for sharing your concerns.
