100 YEARS AGO … 1917

Due to continued freezing weather, all water company customers throughout Plumas are requested to be as careful as possible in the use of water as the water supplies are running very low.

50 YEARS AGO … 1967

Plumas County Sheriff Abernethy has issued a warning that toxic dolls have been found at stores in the Plumas County area. The imported European dolls are said to be highly flammable and emit toxic fumes when on fire. Beware.

25 YEARS AGO … 1992

Vice President of the United States Dan Quayle was in the northern part of California last week arriving in Redding via Air Force II to meet with timber industry leaders and to speak at a $150 per person re-election fundraiser for Congressman Wally Herger.

10 YEARS AGO … 2007

CalTrans has added a series of traffic lights and specialized operating mechanisms for bicyclists and pedestrians in the curved Grizzly Dome tunnel in the Feather River Canyon. The upgrade also includes flashing lights indicating that there are bikers and pedestrians in the tunnel and is actvivated by a button. The cost of the project was $475,000.
