Watch those lady Tigers!

The Tigers are on a roll and clawing right through the competition. Portola girls varsity basketball played in the McQueen Varsity Elite Tournament on Dec. 26, 27 and 28, and finished with a record of 3-1, beating Reno High, South Tahoe High and North Valleys High and losing to host McQueen High.

“I was pleased with how hard the girls competed being that the tourney was being held over the holidays and right after Christmas, you could really tell that some teams were not ready to play, but we definitely did not have that problem,” said head coach Chip Wilson.

“This being my first year as head coach, I was extremely lucky to take over a program that previous coach Matt Compton left in great shape. Head JV coach Danielle Mitchell along with assistant Seth Preston are doing a great job working on fundamentals with the JV girls and I recently had Katlin Brubaker join the varsity as an assistant coach, so that’s been a big help as well.”

The Tiger girls record is 13-3 as the team prepares to start league play. “I think we are headed in the right direction,” said coach Wilson.
